According
to me today many or majority of the people look at discipleship as the domain
of priests, brothers and sisters. It means, the people have a lot of
expectations from these leaders of the Church. So they expect certain code of
conduct / way of living from the priest and religious. Now coming to those
people who consider themselves as the disciples of Jesus, manifest it through
their life. They have a close adherence to the rules and regulations to the
Church. They live real sacramental life and associate themselves with the
activities of the church and also other works of charity. They also do a lot of
prayer both at home and church and also go to pilgrimages to various places.
They also make sure that their children to have a good faith formation. They
also have a life full of hope, love and charity which manifest in their life in
the community.
For
me discipleship starts with my act of expression of faith by abandoning myself
to the hands of God and to His divine Providence. A Christian becomes a true
disciple when he voluntarily allows God to take charge of his life and then
with the grace he receives from God partakes / collaborates himself in the act
of salvation of himself and others. If a person tries to do anything all by
himself, then he forfeits his discipleship and looses the reward promised by
God. (For, he has received his reward already!) A true disciple will find the
community a place for him to experience and give love and also do his work
salvific work. When we abandon ourselves to God, the trails, temptations,
sickness and other tragedies can easily be met and we will be able to overcome
various challenges in life.
